When you disagree

Disagreements about a claim are common. Nothing here says anyone is wrong, and nothing here promises an outcome. These are options and rights you can choose to use, one step at a time.

Who is who

Company adjuster

Works for your insurance company.

Independent adjuster

Hired by your insurance company to inspect. Independent does not mean they represent you.

Public adjuster

Licensed to represent YOU. Paid a percentage of your settlement, often capped by state law. The only adjuster that works for the homeowner.

Your options, in order

Start at the top. Most disagreements are settled long before the bottom.

  1. Request the detailed estimate and ask what was and was not included. A line by line copy tells you what the numbers are built from, and questions are free.
